Disability Law: CA Lawmaker Seeks to Amend Disability Access Suits

San Francisco – California Senate Minority Leader Bob Dutton has drafted a bill that seeks to change the way access suits are handled, during a legislative session at the Capitol this week.

According to Dutton’s Bill SB 783, disability plaintiffs should give business owners 120 days to fix access problems in their businesses before taking legal action. He says this will prevent plaintiffs from making money out of disability lawsuits.

However, the bill did not get the interest of most Democrat legislators. A spokesperson from the Consumer Attorneys of America (CAOC) said business and company owners are given enough information through workshops, seminars, and pamphlets in both English and Spanish regarding disability access laws.

What owners need to do is to implement and apply what they are taught to avoid disputes.
