DISABILITY LAW: Former Tennessee Police Officer Faces Disability Fraud Lawsuit
April 13, 2011
Tennessee - Richard T. Bell, a Metro police officer in Nashville, Tennessee, was sued for collecting $89,119 disability pension benefits fraudulently.
According to the lawsuit, Bell, who was injured on duty, failed to disclose his actual outside income while collecting Metro disability pension benefits. Officials said that Bell has been doing this fraud for more than a decade before the Metro’s Human Resources Department checked his Social Security records and discovered the lapses.
The government also expressed their concerns that they will not be able to fully recover the overpayment due to the statute of limitations.
