SOCIAL SECURITY LAW: Retirees Lobby Group Oppose Cuts to Medicare and Social Security
Washington– The influential lobby group, American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) has expressed its opposition to Congress plans to make cuts to Medicare and Social Security, reports said.
The group’s sentiment was expressed in a multi-million television ad campaign recently aired which was aimed at protecting Medicare and Social Security benefits from being slashed or scrapped.
The group said they believed the government can do better by cutting “wasteful spending” without cutting the benefits earned by workers and employees.
The group’s television ad campaign was aired amid the proposed plan of House Budget Committee Chairman Paul Ryan (Rep- Wisconsin) to replace government-run Medicare with a voucher-like private system that would cost senior citizens at least an extra $6,000 each year by 2021.
