SSA Claims Representative Indicted for Stealing Beneficiaries’ Money

Whittier- A 32-year-old woman who works as a claims representative at the Social Security Administration (SSA’s) office in Whittier has been indicted by the federal grand jury after being accused of stealing money from the agency’s beneficiaries.
According to reports, the woman identified as Gezal Rebecca Duran, from Pomona, faces four counts of theft by a government worker.
She allegedly informed beneficiaries that the agency has overpaid them and that they need to give her money to resolve the problem. According to investigators, it seemed that over $17,000 was stolen by the woman from around 15 beneficiaries, said a US attorney’s office spokesman.
Reports said the woman was released from prison after paying her bond and she will be arraigned on August 29.
