SOCIAL SECURITY: State Dept of Insurance Looks Up on Privacy Breach Involving Health Net Inc.

Woodland Hills -Insurance Commissioner Dave Jones has asked Health Net Inc. to provide the California Department of Insurance a copy of its investigation report about a privacy breach issue.

Health Net’s IT structure manager, IBM, said that several computer server drives that contain sensitive information and patients’ personal date are missing. These information may include names, address, medical and financial data and Social Security numbers of their previous and existing members, workers and health care providers according to Health Net.

Commissioner Jones announced that he is pleased to see that Health Net Inc. is abiding the procedure by informing all affected parties about this privacy lapses.

An independent follow-up investigation will also be conducted by the CDI regarding this security issue.
